Founded by Jochen Zeitz in 2008 the ZEITZ Foundation for Intercultural Ecosphere Security is a non-profit organization in Germany and Kenya. Under the 'Tree of Life' Reforestation Initiative, the ZEITZ foundation has planted over 650,000 Acacia trees to restore degraded land in Segera Conservancy. This work is supported by over seventy members of the local communities that propagate the seedlings, plant and maintain the trees.
As of July 2023, twenty four needy and deserving students from the ZEITZ foundation are benefitting from full bursaries for their high school education through various generous donations from friends of the ZEITZ foundation.
In 2012, the ZEITZ foundation with funding from the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission built the first water harvesting school building at Uaso Nyiro Primary School. The building known as "water bank school" harvests over 360,000 litres annually for the school and students. In 2013, it won an award as the "Greenest School on Earth Award" from the US Green Building Council.
